Gorgeous, gorgeous girls. Hello. Welcome back to Type B Knitting, the podcast. I am one of your hosts, Veronica. And I am your other host, Ghosha.
Speaker 1:This is the podcast where two sisters yapping about knitting and knitting related things. This episode, I think we've kind of been, like, really feeling, like, the inspo and, like, thinking back to all the different patterns and things we want to work on kind of... It's almost feeling like a new season of, like, getting ready to knit. I think it was, like, the hiatus really helped finishing up like big projects. So for this episode, Veronica had this idea, which I think is so funny.
Speaker 1:Going back and seeing like the first things we were like pinning on Pinterest, first things we were saving on Instagram, saving on TikTok, kind of the projects that inspired us to even start the craft. I've had my Pinterest board for forever. I think since like Pinterest came out, our dad is very like tech. Like, what would you call it? Like, he's very like into the tech and has always been.
Speaker 1:Yeah. I remember when he first came to me about like, hey, there's this really cool website. It's called Pinterest. I think you'd really like it for photography. It was very boycoded in the way he described Pinterest, and then I was like, that sounds really dumb.
Speaker 1:Then I was like, wait, there's crafts on here? Wait. There's girl Tumblr on here? Yeah. I feel like...
Speaker 1:Especially since you were kind of, like, more of the artsy kid too, he's like, Gosha, you're really gonna like this. You know? Because I'm like, I don't. I'm very much, like, not tech savvy at all, like, it's low almost embarrassing. I'm, like, behind on everything so, like, I feel like he never approached me with anything like that.
Speaker 1:He's like, Veronica, you'll figure it out when you figure it out. He's like, not even gonna tell you about it. I'm like, okay, work. But yeah, I I remember him, like because he works in tech, so he's always, like, tuned in to, like, he I'm pretty sure he probably, like, introduced us to freaking, like, Instagram and stuff like that too. Literally, he did.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah he's very like in tune with everything. I am actually I don't use Pinterest as much as Gosha. I was more of an Etsy girl like I love Etsy that is where I live and breathe for, like, yarn inspo and stuff like that.
Speaker 1:And I feel like, Gosha, even now, like, you still go on Pinterest to find, like, inspiration for knitting. Right? Not so much for knitting anymore. I think I found other kinda, like, websites and things that I find a little easier to, like, organize. But, like, what's so nice about Pinterest is you have a, like, boards and you can organize it, like, really nice, and that, like, scratches, like, a really nice part in my brain where I can, like, organize things really nice.
Speaker 1:But it's funny because, like, I like the organization part of it, but I never look back at all these things. Like, I have it nicely, like, put in little boxes, but do I go back to them? No. So it's kind of fun to, like, force us to go back to, like, our Instagram DMs, go back to, like, Pinterest and see all the things I've pinned, and, like, majority of them are, oh, that's really cute. I should do that.
Speaker 1:I know. I feel like, when I was like looking through my Etsy, because that's where... That's honestly where I buy like majority of my patterns too. Like, I strictly like go on Etsy to buy my patterns. Very or like the creators like website like if they have a direct website I've like never bought a pattern on Ravelry I don't know how to do it again it's that like vulnerable, like, 65 year olds will be to me where I'm like, I don't know how to do it, I don't really wanna learn.
Speaker 1:So, I found a workaround on that. But, yeah, I, it's funny to see, like, now what, like, looks super difficult to, you know, a beginner versus like, oh, now that I know how to do this, like, it doesn't look that difficult or, you know, how our, like, tastes have changed too. Oh, yes. Yeah. I think that's super interesting, but I totally agree with you.
Speaker 1:Like I'm never like looking. So the way that I have it on Etsy, I was starting to organize it, but that was a little bit too type a for me. So I stopped organizing it and I, I just started like, liking things. So I have, like, a favorites list on Etsy that all of, like, my everything that I ever liked on Etsy is on there so it's, like, 20 pages long so I had to,
Speaker 2:like, do a little bit
Speaker 1:of digging on that. I love how we're, like, oh, we'll have better ways to organize it, and then it's absolutely not the more organized way
Speaker 2:of doing it.
Speaker 1:Well, because I'm like, I also... Like, we're both not utilizing these lists. Right? Like, you're not going to your Pinterest to look for what to knit next. I'm not going to my Etsy to look at what I wanna knit next.
Speaker 1:Like, it's really just like... I think it it, it's like, oh, it just makes me feel better that, like, I liked it and it's living somewhere, so I'll never forget about it. That's kind of like my crazy excel sheet. Like I'm never gonna look through those links and actually buy any pattern on there, but it makes me feel good knowing that it just like lives on there. But then it like bites you in the ass because like you and I were talking about a certain pattern.
Speaker 1:You were inspired by knitting an amigurumi little goose, and I was like, oh, wait. I've actually saved a goose pattern. Let me go find it. It's different than what you're finding. I literally scoured my Instagram saved.
Speaker 1:I scoured my Pinterest boards. I scoured my Ravelry. I... Like, all... It took me like an hour and a half to look through all of this thinking that I saved it somewhere, but then not being able to find it later.
Speaker 1:I feel like if I needed to, you know what would be so funny? If we... I think this would be a good episode idea. If you, like, picked a pattern off of my master spreadsheet and, like, tried to see if I could find which one it was because my delusional stuff is, like, I feel like I'd be able to find it because some of the patterns do have, like, titles on them. I'd be like, oh, like, you know, like, cute cables or, I don't know, cable cardigan or something like that.
Speaker 1:I'm like, I kinda know. The only thing I don't know is the yarn on there. Like, I really can't... I've never even, like, attempted to organize that. But the patterns, like, I have them separated between, like, sweaters, cardigans, cables, and then, like, other random stuff.
Speaker 1:So I'm, like, I don't know. I feel like I can do it. We have to put that to the test now because I truly don't think so. I I think you... We think our stuff is organized better than it is, and then we're gonna go in and be like, who?
Speaker 1:My what? Yeah. I know. I'm, like totally different. I know.
Speaker 1:I have a lot of confidence in that, but I would also like to see it put to the test because I don't know. I feel like I could do it. Okay. I love it. One of these episodes will do it.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Did you wanna start and then we kind of like ping pong back and forth what treasures we found, what relics in our saved projects? Yeah. I don't think it tells me when I saved this but I'm curious to see if Etsy would tell me when this was like posted like how old this pattern is. No darn.
Speaker 1:Too bad. We'll never know. So, okay. So the first thing, and I'm so curious, Gosha, if you're gonna remember this, it is a Tunisian crochet pattern. So it's not even knit.
Speaker 1:It's literally Tunisian crochet and it's like a hood and it is the, Pixel Hood by Coast Mouti. Definitely tag them in the... In our Instagram post. It is so cool. I've never seen a, like, texture like this.
Speaker 1:Like, it's almost like basket weaving. Like, I don't... I literally don't know even how to describe this. It is so cool. It is a really, really cute, like...
Speaker 1:What is that? Cornflower blue with a poopy green, which we all know. I love a poopy green. Yeah, it's so cute, but again, I didn't even know what... I mean, it's kind of close to knitting, Tunisian crochet, because it is on, like, you do it on circular needles and you basically do it like knitting.
Speaker 1:But do you remember this pattern, Gosha?: I literally what's so funny is I feel like I've been there for all of your knitting journey, so I remember when you sent this. So, like, remembering that this was one of the couple patterns, like, you were first, like, looking into. Like, a Tunisian crochet, I don't know, like, terrifies me because, like, I feel it's, like, so difficult. But this pattern is so beautiful. I was considering doing it even though I'm like...
Speaker 1:Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. I was heavily considering doing this. It's like a two tone, like how Veronica was explaining it, and it's waffle knit, basket basket wove. Wove.
Speaker 1:And so, like, it's very, very pretty. I do remember this. I feel like the reason that I was possibly, like, looking at something like this is because I actually started out crocheting. So it probably was like a way to get around like not actually learning to knit and just doing Tunisian crochet but I think I remember you being like girl like just learn to knit like it's gonna be super easy because I remember looking at like like first of all this doesn't even look like a beginner pattern for someone who's like trying to learn to do Tunisian crochet so like I don't even think it would be a good idea for me to attempt this. I yeah I'm pretty sure it's just because like it seemed more approachable to me because I was used to crocheting so I'm like oh, like it would be a good pattern for me to kind of start off in and just like transitioning away from like traditional crochet.
Speaker 1:But it's still super cute. Would I knit it now? Probably not. Am I obsessed with this like color scheme and the texture on it? Yes.
Speaker 1:Still cute. Would I make it? No. But it's it's super cute. That's funny because once the weather gets cold enough, I feel like I'm gonna be making this.
Speaker 1:I really like it. I... But I... Like, social media has influenced me so hard in that, like, I I so badly want these hoods and, like, these, like, hooded scarves and all of that. Oh, and, like, the balaclavas.
Speaker 1:And then I think about it and, like, I love to do my hair, like, in, like, braids or, like, ponytails or something. Then like, I think about the reality of wearing that and it's like, it would mess up my hair. So then I don't wanna like actually wear it. Yeah. I mean, in braids, it wouldn't really mess up your hair, don't think.
Speaker 1:I think it might be fine. In braids, no. I think that might be okay. But this is kind of fun because I'm feeling inspired by the other things, but, we'll see. Very cute.
Speaker 1:But did you, like, because you knitted the Gelda hood. Did you ever... Do you wear that ever? Like, or did you finish it, like, right after, like, winter was ending? As soon as I finished it, it got really warm where it was, like, more spring vibes.
Speaker 1:Okay. So we'll see if I wear it this winter. We'll see, though.
Speaker 2:I don't know if I will.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Maybe hold off on making another hood until you know if you're actually gonna wear it. Yeah. I can prove that I'll wear it. I feel like I'm gonna be so inspired by your your picks.
Speaker 1:Mine are gonna feel so crazy. So you went back to your Etsy and you were looking at your patterns, so that's where you were saving yours. My Pinterest is so old, I would say it was back when I was in high school, so that was like 2013, 2014, the newest itch. So, time travel back in time, thinking about 2013, 2014, and all the rage, and it was funny going all the way to the bottom of my Pinterest, it was a lot of crochet, And majority of the first, pins, they were just pictures of crochet. It wasn't even a pattern.
Speaker 1:It was just a close-up of what crochet looked like? Yeah. It's just, like, stock images of crochet. And I'm just like, I like this. You're like, it's a vibe.
Speaker 1:I love it. I'm like, everything about this vibe, just bring it to me. I'm just manifesting over here.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:So once I actually got to like a DIY or a pattern, it was like mostly scarves and mostly crocheted scarves, and so it's just blocks. So, I tried finding the next thing that I thought was fun. Go back to 2012. What was very popular back then? Oh.
Speaker 1:Arm knitting blankets. Horrible. There were so... I had so many pins of arm knit blankets. I've...
Speaker 1:I personally never made any, but like, this craft had a choke hold on 2013 Pinterest. Yeah. I made one of those. And we've told this story before, but I literally made one of those for my parents with, like... You're supposed to make it with, like, the chunkiest yarn ever because you're literally using your fingers as the needle.
Speaker 1:So imagine, like, the thickness that you would have to get in order to get, like, a pretty decent weight blanket and, like, without it looking all super crazy. I literally, I think I used, like, three balls of worsted weight all held together, which, like, what are we doing? Like, that's not gonna look good. But... Yeah.
Speaker 1:It... Yeah. The choke hold, and I was not, you know, I was not immune to that. It it got me. I remember you made it, and it felt very much like, kudos on you because that's a bit...
Speaker 1:Very big project, but, like, you're first learning a lot of it. And I remember, like, your knitted blanket just looked like fishermen netting. So, like, you're just catching fish with this. Yeah. It was so loose.
Speaker 1:I was just like, this is not good. And then I remember, like, I think a couple years after, like, it was just, like, living in the closet. And I'm like, alright. It's time to get rid of this. I'm like, know my parents will...
Speaker 1:Because I gave it to my parents. I'm like, I know they're never gonna get rid of it. I'm like, I'll do you the favor and I will get rid of it. I'm like, don't worry guys. I got it.
Speaker 1:I'll I'll do the honors. Yeah. So that was my Pinterest. And then an honorable mention, this would be under crochet. Because I I pulled from my Pinterest and I also pulled from my Ravelry, which I think is like pretty fine, but my Pinterest is hilarious.
Speaker 1:When I lived in my first apartment, I was so ambitious with all of like my craft, where, like, I wanted to, like, crochet myself a whole rug. And I found this one where you take, like, a light rope and you crochet that in so you have this, like, light up rug. I never made it, but I really wanted a light up rug. Here's the thing, why would you ever need a light up rug? Like, I...
Speaker 1:Like, that just seems like a bad idea. Also, I feel like light rope is not meant to be stepped on constantly. Correct. No. None of this is thought out.
Speaker 1:I just like was got got by the Pinterest images. It's the expectation versus reality. But I like I thought it was gonna be so cute like... You know what's so funny? This is also like before AI was a thing and that is so like AI slop before AI slop is crazy.
Speaker 1:Yeah. It's just... Like who thinks that's a good idea? Like, putting that rope like, again, it's just really not a good idea. No.
Speaker 1:And the funny thing too is, like, that's a BuzzFeed article, so it's like, okay. Kinda checks out. Mhmm. Yep. That's so funny.
Speaker 1:I love it. Okay. Talking about speaking of ambitious, so one of my first crochet, like, projects was a stocking, and I actually got rid of it, which I'm, like, really sad about because it was actually really cute. It was basically, like, a bobble stocking, and it was in all white and it was really cute and also I don't think I mentioned this but I started knitting in like 2020, I started with crochet and then I think like that same year a little bit later towards the year I started to knit, and I was like oh well I just made like a crochet, stocking like last year like 2020 no 2019 during, like, Christmas time. So I'm like, oh, I should knit a stocking.
Speaker 1:And I remember seeing these stockings. They are, the Christmas knit stocking pattern, by If an Our Child. I don't know. It's literally the craziest color work you've ever seen in your entire life. It's probably in Tarja.
Speaker 1:I I don't know. Maybe it's stranded. I have no idea. It's a snowy scene with, like, a really cute houses, and then you would, like, knit someone's name in it. And I'm like, what makes me think I could do this as a complete beginner as my very first pattern?
Speaker 1:Like, that is psychotic, and the color work goes all around the stocking too. So I'm like, it would be... Oh my god. Go show look at the charts. The charts on this are psychotic.
Speaker 1:They're so intricate....
Speaker 2:A
Speaker 1:lot. It's it's very intricate and hard, I would say, for a beginner to figure out. Very lovely. I think you could do it now. Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1:It would be very discouraging as a beginner, somebody who would literally like, hey, my first knitting project, you know, I did a little crochet. Let me start knitting. And then you jump into this. It's crazy. Also, these dimensions are kinda crazy.
Speaker 1:It's seven inches wide by 24 inches long. I feel like that's, like, the longest stocking ever. Well, I think you're comparing it to regular socks. I feel like I go ahead try what was talking. It might feel normal.
Speaker 1:I don't know. I feel like it's kind of long. I don't know. But yeah, this is crazy. This is absolutely psychotic thing.
Speaker 1:God knows I won't be on gauge, so it might be even bigger. Yeah. That's the other thing. Like, we're not gonna gauge swatch for this. Why would, like, why would you gauge swatch for a stocking?
Speaker 1:I would never do that. So I'm like, it would be like four feet long and like two inches wide probably. Super skinny, really long. It'd be a great gift for a snake. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1:But yeah, this was the second oldest thing that I ever saved was this stocking. They're super cute. Would I make them now? Absolutely. I think they're literally so cute.
Speaker 1:I love them. But yeah, I just think this is like crazy. It's so obvious that I knew nothing about knitting, Right? Because it's, like, this is crazy for someone to just begin. Number one, a sock.
Speaker 1:Like, it's not even, like, knitted flat. It's knitted in the round. Plus, you have to make the heel and the toe. So it's like, this is a lot, you know, like, don't even think about that. So, it's just funny to see and, like, think about how naive I was to, like, imagine that I could do this as a beginner.
Speaker 1:I'm sure some people could. Me personally? Absolutely not. And I haven't even attempted to do anything like this, so... Love it.
Speaker 1:For me, I don't know where I heard of Ravelry, but I feel like I started using Ravelry almost like right away from knitting. Oh. Yeah. What's also really interesting is my Ravelry isn't as fun or funny as my Pinterest was. I think I started picking up knitting again in 2018, 2019, so I think only like a year or so before you picked up crochet knitting.
Speaker 1:So, the first patterns I've ever saved were petite knit patterns, which I think is just so funny and so popular and kind of showing how long they've been popular for. Oh, yeah. Ones that I've saved, the Sunday sweater, the no frills sweater, and maybe I was just excited to knit. I think also knowing how much time goes into... And the investment it takes to make something, I think I was so scared of going for anything super crazy at first, so I think that's why I was gravitating towards pieces that were very classic and timeless and just staple pieces.
Speaker 1:My style now has, I think, evolved to be a little bit more fun. Would I knit these? I think absolutely. I think they're very simple pieces. I think I've done so much knitting now that I would maybe add a little fun or something to it.
Speaker 1:Maybe the no frills sweater by Type B Knitting would be, like, a good base and, like, maybe I would do, like, duplicate stitch or, like, add tassels or something. I don't know. Like, you know, like, good base and starting point for some, like, fun idea. It's funny that you were, like, hesitant to, like, knit anything crazy because you're like, oh, I... Like, it's gonna take me a long time so I wanna make sure it's good.
Speaker 1:We're like, even now, I don't care if it's good. I'm like, honestly, like, just... I just need something to do with my hands. I'm like, I literally don't care. I don't care if it's good.
Speaker 1:I don't care if it fits me. I'm just having fun. I feel that's such an interesting approach where it's like, oh, you're looking for knitting as a thing to do, but I'm very, like, results driven of, oh, I want this sweater, so that's why I like the knitting. Are you results driven? Because you haven't worked on your mohair crud again in a really long time, so I don't know if you are.
Speaker 1:I want the thing. Didn't say I get to the end. No. Listen. I want everything I'm knitting, but the way...
Speaker 1:Like, I don't... Again, I'm here for a good time. So if I'm not having fun with it, like, the instructions seem like something I wouldn't have fun with, then I'm not gonna do it like how it said. So we're here for results, but we're also here to have fun. You know?
Speaker 1:The last thing that I had is... And I don't even know if I would still make this now. Look how freaking chunky the sweater is. It's like the chunkiest thing I've ever seen. It's so...
Speaker 1:Like, it's cute. I'm just like, it just looks so heavy. This is the chunky knit jumper pattern easy oversize sweater by Daisy and Peace on Etsy. Yeah. I think I was just looking for, like, literally knitting pattern easy, and then I saw this.
Speaker 1:I also think I was trying to like remake a sweater that I had, from H and M that's like legitimately like one of my favorite sweaters ever. I love that sweater. It's my most worn every single year and I think I just wanted more colors in it. And this does look very similar to it. Again, it just looks legitimately so thick that I'm like, I don't know if this is actually like, reasonable for me to make because I don't think I would enjoy wearing it.
Speaker 1:But then again, I could... Oh, no. That would be a bad idea. So, like, I could just, like, size down in the yarn, but then, like, the knit... The sweater would literally be, like, made for a baby.
Speaker 1:So never mind. A little cropped... Oversized sweater, but it's cropped. Yeah. It's cropped and tight.
Speaker 1:One of my last ones, in addition to very simple sweaters, I had a lot of mitts. I really wanted to make, like, mitts. I think because those seemed fun where it was, like, color work a little bit of, like, a design, not something that's so simple. Do you mean mittens or, like, oven mitts? No, mittens.
Speaker 1:Winter mittens. Oh, okay. I heard mitts. I was like, you're gonna make like an oven mitt? Like, that's kind of crazy.
Speaker 1:No, mittens. Mittens. Mittens. Yeah. So I had like a couple saved.
Speaker 1:One of the first ones was the Speedy Selbu Mittens by Skin Deer Knits. It just has little like snowflakes in the top of the hand and then underneath it's just like color work. I actually made a little while ago slippers that were very similar in color work. And I actually had a lot of fun making those. So maybe I revisit mittens.
Speaker 1:I think the practicality of mittens, I don't don't know. I feel like I would be so restricted versus wearing gloves. Maybe that's why I never ended up making them. Very cute. I think they'd make a good gift, but maybe somebody else might not find them as practical.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Yeah. I don't know a lot of people who like wear mittens on the day to day. Like, that's kind of a crazy move. It's like a crazy move.
Speaker 1:The only thing I could see is, like, somebody, like, waiting for, like, a train or a bus, and they're, like... And then it's, like, super chilly, like, tundra out. Yeah. But don't you wanna be on your phone? I take I take the train to work when I do go into work, and, like, I who's just like waiting if you're waiting and just staring out I'm scared of you that's scary why are you doing that unless you're like listening to something I guess but I don't know that's like kind of crazy just staring out into space oh like
Speaker 2:I don't
Speaker 1:know. I feel like I've done... No. Actually, that's not true. I do that sometimes.
Speaker 1:I lied. I do stare. But I'm listening to things, so, like, it's a little less crazy. You just... Anyone else is creepy, but if I'm doing it.
Speaker 1:No. If you're listening to something, it's okay. If you're not listening to something and you're just staring out in his face, maybe you just had a really hard day. I don't know. But, yeah, I'd be a little scared of you.
Speaker 1:Let people have a hard day, Veronica.
Speaker 2:Leave leave us alone.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh. Well, if you wanna see any of these projects, check out our Instagram type b knitting pod. We'll post all of these throwbacks there. Yeah. Any final thoughts?
Speaker 1:No. Our rating on Spotify is a 4.9. I would just like to point that out. So... Because I was bragging to my dad about how many...
Speaker 1:Not... And bragging is a very strong word. I was like, I can't believe, like, we have almost 150 followers on Instagram, which I think is so crazy. Thank you to every single one of you guys. It's so crazy that people want to listen to us talk.
Speaker 1:Oh, literally. Because I'm like, man, sometimes I'm tired of my own voice. But, yeah, we have a 4.9 at Spotify, so I was pretty proud of that because I remember we are at some trying times. We were at 4.6, so I'm like, oof. So, yeah, Spotify rating is good.
Speaker 1:We love to see it. I don't know what the Apple Podcast... Do you know what the Apple Podcast rating
Speaker 2:is at?
Speaker 1:I don't know. It's up there for something. Let me check. Oh. Oh my god.
Speaker 1:We're... Oh, no. We're at a 4.5 on Apple Podcasts. Oh, no, guys. Okay.
Speaker 1:Now I'm gonna have to start begging everyone on Apple Podcasts give us good ratings. No. It's probably has nothing to do with, like, my audio editing skills and our podcasting recording. No. It could never.
Speaker 2:The very
Speaker 1:It could never be that. It's definitely people being annoyed of us, which, hey, can we blame them? Nope. Wait. I can't.
Speaker 1:I wish I could... Can I not, like, see the comments? And, like, you know, it's so... No. No.
Speaker 1:They're like, hey, guys. No. You guys are just a little too loud. Can you just make sure to, like, you know, fix the audio? You're like, hey.
Speaker 1:Fix our rating now. No. No. No. No.
Speaker 1:No. I was just curious because I know that... I think people can leave comments on Apple Podcasts and, like, maybe... Because remember we had the whole DM fiasco where I didn't know people were sending us DMs and I was just ignoring them on accident? Now I know to check those.
Speaker 1:So I'm like, if people are leaving comments on Apple, I would like to reply to them because I feel like that's a nice thing to do.
Speaker 2:Oh my god.
Speaker 1:And I would like to say, I'm curious at what point, not that I want this to happen, knock on wood, I'm curious at what point we'll start getting haters because I'm like, everyone is literally so nice and, like, says really nice things about us and I'm like, the second someone gives us any type of bad or it's, like, mean to us, I'm leaving. Oh my god. I have no backbone. I'm sensitive. Don't be mean to I can't handle it.
Speaker 1:I need constructive criticism sandwiched between a bunch of, like, heart emojis, the sparkles. I need a lot of, like, rainbows in there. I just... I can't take it. I can't take Girl, the Internet's not made for you then.
Speaker 1:I know. I know. I can't take criticism on, like, my creative outlets. You know? I'm like, I just...
Speaker 1:We we really... We're here to lift each other up, guys, not tear each other down. That being said, go rate us on Apple Podcasts. But only if it's five stars. Otherwise, Veronica will cry.
Speaker 1:Only... Yeah, guys. I'll literally... If I... If there are comments on there that are mean, I'll, reply with a picture of me crying and be like, is this what you wanted?
